Comprehensive Plan
In the past 20 years, growth pressure, traffic increases, greater demand for public services, and increased pressure on sensitive resources have made changes to the Township’s traditional rural landscape. These changes are of clear concern to the Township whose overarching goal is to retain its traditional rural character and quality of life for its residents while still addressing and responding to inevitable change. The Township recognized a balance is needed between meeting changing demands and the ability of the land to sustain development and new uses. Through the revision to the Comprehensive Plan, the Township sought to establish principles on which planning decisions are based on environmentally sound and sustainable principles, infrastructure capabilities, and the need to meet legal requirements.

In 2018, Silver Spring Township updated the dated 2005 Comprehensive Recreation, Park and Open Space Plan (PDF). This plan will supplement the Township's municipal comprehensive plan and also includes ordinance revisions and an update of the Stony Ridge Park Master Plan (last updated in 2003).
The Township has established a 16-member Study Committee to work with consultants Yost Strodoski Mears (YSM), Toole Recreation Planning, and Ann Hutchinson (Land Use Planner for Natural Lands Trust) to develop and submit a recommended Comprehensive Recreation, Park and Open Space Plan. The plan will set forth goals for park, recreation services and open space in Silver Spring Township. We have provided survey results and meeting minutes below.
