Navy Base to Conduct Well Water Testing

The Navy base will conduct drinking well water tests in Cumberland County in the next couple of weeks. The proper notices will be made in writing this week and you may have already received notice directly from NAVFAC Southeast.

The tests will occur in Lower Allen, Upper Allen and Silver Spring townships focusing on the southwestern corner of the base. The water tests are being conducted as a follow-up to tests from two years ago that detected the presence of fire-fighting foam chemicals (PFAS) in the water. Below is the link to the Department of the Navy’s drinking water well sampling website:

The site is very informative, includes a map, as well as a number for people with private wells to call to schedule testing.  Residents who receive services from Suez Water Company or Pennsylvania American Water Company do not need to be sampled.
