1. Where is the Township building located?

2. How do I report a street light outage?

Contact the Township Administration Office at 717-766-0178, ext. 3001 and we will collect the necessary information and report the problem to PPL. Please note that we will need the following information: 1) Pole number, 2) Description of the issue (on/off all the time/flickering, etc.), 3) Street name, and 4) Nearest cross street.

3. Does the Township have a noise ordinance?

4. Am I required to purchase a dog license?

Cumberland County requires that you obtain a dog license for all dogs 3 months and older. Dogs must be properly licensed each year. Please visit Cumberland County online for more information. You may also contact the Willow Mill Veterinary Hospital at 717-766-7981 for dog license information.

5. Does the Township have a burning ordinance?

Except for campfires and approved bonfires, burning is only allowed in association with agricultural uses on properties of 10 acres or larger. For more information click this link:

8. Can I be exempt from paying the Local Service Tax?

Contact the West Shore Tax Bureau at 717-590-7997 or visit their website at www.westab.org for questions in regard to the Local Service Tax.

9. Can I raise chickens or other noncommercial livestock in the Township?

The Township passed Ordinance 2017-03 on May 10, 2017, creating acceptable practices for keeping selected livestock (including chickens) on land zoned Residential. Please click the button above and search for the topic. 

10. What can I do about stray cats on my property?

Contact Silver Spring Township for a Trap/Neuter/Release voucher for feral cats. This voucher must be redeemed within 90 days of the date it was issued. An appointment is required to redeem the voucher.

You can also trap the cat yourself and contact local animal rescue organizations (i.e., Find Toby in PA findtobypa.org or Nobody's Cats Foundation nobodyscats.org.)

If the cat doesn't appear to be feral, you can file a found report with the Humane Society of Harrisburg, contact a local cat rescue, or have a vet scan for a microchip (free of charge).

12. What are the rules for door-to-door solicitation of goods?

The Township allows for the offering of goods, wares, services, or merchandise by visitation to private residences. Solicitors must obtain a soliciting permit (fee required) before doing business. Click the link below for rules and specifications governing this permit. An application must be completed along with a background check before a permit is issued. This process takes approximately three weeks. The permit is non-transferable and is valid for up to three months. Ask solicitors to see their permit.
